walking circles
Between 2019 and 2022, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Hong Kong adopted a strict Zero-Covid strategy, effectively sealing its borders. To enter the city from abroad, one was subject to a period of quarantine, isolating in designated hotels or government facilities. Throughout this time, I never left the city; instead, I kept walking up, down, and across its territory, searching, in vain, for a way out.
“My journey will, however, be longer than this; for I shall traverse my room up and down and across, without rule or plan. I shall even zig-zag about, following, if needs be, every possible geometrical line”
Xavier de Maistre, Journey around my room
