mens sana in urbe sana

Hong Kong is ranking first in terms of average life expectancy, 87.3 years for women and 81.3 years for men. [United Nations Vital Statistics Summary and Life Expectancy at Birth, 2016]
Every day, people of all ages, but especially the elderly, dedicate part of their time to take care of their body with simple stretching, jogging, or tai chi exercises.
A culture of exercise, both physical and mental, which derives from the millenary Chinese tradition but which is not far from the famous Latin principle “mens sana in corpore sano”.
I started this photographic project a few years ago, fascinated by the use of space, in a city where urban space costs and where public space is scarce.
In recent months of global difficulties, due to the spread of Covid-19, I have resumed this work. Despite the need for protection and social distancing, people still found the urge to remain strong, both physically and spiritually.
